ELISABETH MARTENS April 10, 1912 February 13, 2007 On Tuesday, February 13, 2007, Mom left us here on earth to go to her eternal home. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her son Herbert and wife Jillian; grandsons, Doug, Tim, Jeff; granddaughter Elisa; great-granddaughters, Kristen, Karlie and Haley. Survivor of two world wars, forced to relocate during the Second World War, and then venturing to a new country with a foreign language, Elisabeth came to Canada with her son in 1948. They landed in Halifax and from there took the train to Manitoba. Elisabeth worked in Winnipeg as a seamstress until retirement. Mom was best known to family and friends as Oma. She used her talented hands to lovingly create many items; sewn, knitted and crocheted. Mom's homemade borscht and buns were enjoyed by all. Mom went most places using Transit Tom . This included trips with her granddaughter to Eaton's for chips and gravy and then on to Bingo, which was her favourite recreational activity. For the past four and one half years Mom resided at Central Park Lodge Parkview Place Personal Care Home where she was affectionately known as boom boom . A private family service to celebrate Elisabeth's life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital 5B and second floor staff of Central Park Lodge for their love, care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elisabeth's memory to the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 2A6 or, to a charity of your choice. Elisabeth's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
